ClueLens Privacy Policy
ClueLens is a browser extension that lets users select text on a web page and look up dictionary, translation, or AI-assisted explanations inside the extension panel. This Privacy Policy explains what data the extension handles, how it is used, and when it is shared.
What data ClueLens handles
- Selected text from the current web page when the user actively uses the extension.
- Extension settings stored in the browser, such as enabled dictionaries, UI language, and request timeout.
- Optional service configuration entered by the user, such as API endpoint URLs or API keys for supported third-party services.
How the data is used
- Selected text is used only to show dictionary, translation, or explanation results requested by the user.
- Settings are used only to remember the user's extension preferences.
- Optional API credentials are used only to authenticate requests to the third-party service chosen by the user.
Where data is stored
ClueLens does not operate its own remote server for storing user data. Extension settings and optional API configuration are stored locally in the browser's extension storage area.
When data is shared with third parties
When the user triggers a lookup, the selected text may be sent directly to one or more third-party services that the extension uses to provide results. Depending on which dictionaries or services are enabled by the user, this can include:
- Google Translate
- Bing Dictionary / Bing services
- Wiktionary
- Jisho
- Urban Dictionary
- OpenAI-compatible APIs configured by the user
- Caiyun
- DeepLX or another translation endpoint configured by the user
These third-party services process data under their own privacy policies. Users should review those policies before enabling or using those services.
What ClueLens does not do
- It does not sell user data.
- It does not use user data for advertising.
- It does not collect browsing history for analytics or profiling.
- It does not transmit user data to the developer's own server for storage or resale.
Permissions
ClueLens currently uses permissions such as storage, tabs, and commands
to save settings, support user interactions, and provide extension features.
Security
The extension is intended to communicate with external services over HTTPS where supported. Users are responsible for the trust and security of any custom API endpoint they configure.
Chrome Web Store compliance statement
The use of information received from Google APIs, if any, will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect product changes or legal requirements. The latest version will be published at this page.
